Exporting Your Vault

Exporting your vault creates a backup copy of your data that you can save to your device, cloud storage, or transfer to another password manager.

Security Warning

Exported files contain your unencrypted data. Store exported files securely and delete them after use. Never share exported files or upload them to unsecured locations.

How to Export Your Vault

Export Steps

  1. Open the vault you want to export
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Navigate to "Export" or "Data Management"
  4. Select "Export Vault"
  5. Choose the export format (see formats below)
  6. Select which data to include:
    • Passwords
    • Notes
    • Documents
    • Other item types
  7. Tap "Export"
  8. Choose where to save the file (Files app, iCloud Drive, etc.)
  9. Save the file

Export Formats

Oculock supports exporting to multiple formats:

CSV Format

A comma-separated values file that can be opened in spreadsheet applications. Useful for viewing data in Excel or Google Sheets.

JSON Format

A structured data format that preserves all item details. Useful for technical users or importing into other applications.

1Password Format

Export in 1Password's format for importing into 1Password.

LastPass Format

Export in LastPass CSV format for importing into LastPass or other compatible password managers.

Bitwarden Format

Export in Bitwarden's JSON format for importing into Bitwarden.

Encrypted Archive

Export as an encrypted archive file for secure backup storage.

Importing Data

You can import data from other password managers or from previously exported Oculock vaults.

How to Import Data

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Navigate to "Import" or "Data Management"
  3. Select "Import Data"
  4. Choose the import source:
    • From File: Select a file from your device
    • From Other Password Manager: Follow the instructions for your specific password manager
  5. Select the file to import
  6. Choose the destination vault (or create a new vault)
  7. Review the import preview
  8. Tap "Import" to complete the import

Supported Import Formats

  • CSV: Standard CSV files from password managers
  • JSON: JSON format exports from other password managers
  • 1Password: 1Password export files
  • LastPass: LastPass CSV exports
  • Bitwarden: Bitwarden JSON exports
  • Oculock: Previously exported Oculock vaults

Backup Recommendations

  • Regular Backups: Export your vault regularly (weekly or monthly)
  • Multiple Locations: Store backups in multiple secure locations
  • Encrypted Storage: Use encrypted storage or encrypted export format
  • Secure Deletion: Delete exported files after importing to new devices
  • Offline Storage: Consider storing backups on external drives or USB sticks in a secure location

External Drive Backup

With the Individual plan or higher, you can backup directly to external drives:

  1. Connect an external drive or USB stick to your device
  2. Go to Settings > Backup
  3. Select "External Drive Backup"
  4. Choose the connected drive
  5. Select the vault to backup
  6. Tap "Create Backup"
