Accessing Security Settings

To access security settings:

  1. Open Oculock
  2. Go to Settings (gear icon)
  3. Tap "Security"

Biometric Authentication

Enable Face ID or Touch ID for quick access to your vault. See the Biometric Authentication help topic for detailed information.

Auto-Lock Settings

Configure when your vault automatically locks for security:

Auto-Lock Timer

Set how long the app can be inactive before the vault automatically locks:

  • Immediately: Locks as soon as you leave the app
  • 30 seconds: Locks after 30 seconds of inactivity
  • 1 minute: Locks after 1 minute
  • 5 minutes: Locks after 5 minutes
  • 15 minutes: Locks after 15 minutes
  • 30 minutes: Locks after 30 minutes
  • Never: Never locks automatically (not recommended)

Recommended Setting

For best security, we recommend setting auto-lock to 1-5 minutes. This ensures your vault is locked if you leave your device unattended.

Master Password Requirements

When creating or changing your master password, ensure it meets these requirements:

  • Minimum Length: At least 12 characters (longer is better)
  • Character Variety: Mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
  • Uniqueness: Don't reuse passwords from other accounts
  • Memorable: Use a password you can remember, or store your recovery phrase securely

Recovery Phrase

Set up and manage your recovery phrase for vault recovery. See the Recovery Phrases help topic for detailed information.

Encryption Settings

Oculock uses AES-256 encryption with PBKDF2 key derivation. These settings are automatically configured for maximum security.

Encryption Version

When creating a new vault, you can choose the encryption version. New vaults use the latest encryption standards by default.

Privacy Settings

Analytics Consent

Control whether anonymous usage analytics are collected:

  • Enabled: Anonymous usage data is collected locally to help improve the app
  • Disabled: No analytics data is collected

Analytics data is stored locally and never transmitted to external servers.

Crash Reporting

Control whether crash reports are generated and stored locally:

  • Crash reports are stored locally only
  • You can choose to send crash reports manually to help improve the app
  • Crash reports are never automatically transmitted

Network Security

Local Network Sync

Control local network sync features (HomeVault plan required):

  • Enable or disable local network sync
  • Grant network permissions when prompted
  • Manage sync consent settings

Item Share (Snap Vault)

Control item sharing features:

  • Enable or disable item sharing
  • Manage sharing consent

Advanced Security

Require Master Password After Biometric

You can configure when your master password is required even if biometric authentication is enabled:

  • After Device Restart: Always require master password after device restart
  • After 48 Hours: Require master password if 48 hours have passed since last unlock
  • Never: Only require biometric authentication (less secure)

Security Best Practices

  • Enable Biometric Authentication: Provides quick and secure access
  • Set Auto-Lock Timer: Lock your vault after a short period of inactivity
  • Use Strong Master Password: Create a unique, strong master password
  • Set Up Recovery Phrase: Enable recovery in case you forget your password
  • Regular Backups: Export your vault regularly for backup
  • Keep App Updated: Update Oculock regularly for security patches
