What is Local Network Sync?
Local Network Sync allows you to synchronize your vault data across multiple devices on the same WiFi network. This feature uses peer-to-peer connections directly between your devices - your data never goes through external servers.
Premium Feature
Local Network Sync is available with the HomeVault plan or higher. If you're on the Individual plan, you can upgrade to access this feature.
Requirements
- HomeVault plan or higher: This feature requires a subscription
- Same WiFi network: All devices must be connected to the same local network
- WiFi enabled: Both devices must have WiFi enabled
- Oculock installed: Both devices must have Oculock installed
Setting Up Local Network Sync
Initial Setup
- Ensure both devices are on the same WiFi network
- Open Oculock on both devices
- On the first device, go to Settings
- Navigate to "Local Network Sync"
- Toggle on "Enable Local Network Sync"
- Grant network permissions if prompted
- On the second device, repeat steps 3-6
Syncing Your Vault
How to Sync a Vault
- Open the vault you want to sync on the first device
- Go to Settings > Local Network Sync
- The app will search for available devices on your network
- Select the device you want to sync with
- Choose the vault you want to sync (if you have multiple vaults)
- Tap "Start Sync"
- On the receiving device, accept the sync request
- The sync will begin automatically
How Sync Works
Local Network Sync uses encrypted peer-to-peer connections:
- Direct Connection: Data is transmitted directly between your devices, not through any external servers
- Encrypted: All data is encrypted during transmission
- Automatic: Once set up, sync can happen automatically when both devices are on the same network
- Bidirectional: Changes on either device will sync to the other
Managing Sync
Available Devices
The Local Network Sync screen shows all devices on your network that have Oculock installed and sync enabled. You can see which devices are currently online and available for syncing.
Sync Status
You can see the sync status for each vault:
- Synced: The vault is up to date across all devices
- Syncing: A sync is currently in progress
- Pending: Changes are waiting to be synced
- Not Synced: The vault is not configured for sync
Troubleshooting
Devices Not Appearing
- Check WiFi: Ensure both devices are on the same WiFi network
- Check Permissions: Make sure Oculock has network permissions enabled
- Check Sync Status: Verify that Local Network Sync is enabled on both devices
- Firewall: Some firewalls may block peer-to-peer connections - check your router settings
- Restart Sync: Try disabling and re-enabling Local Network Sync on both devices
Sync Not Completing
- Check Connection: Ensure both devices maintain a stable WiFi connection
- Check Vault Lock: Make sure the vault is unlocked on both devices
- Check Storage: Ensure both devices have sufficient storage space
- Restart App: Try closing and reopening Oculock on both devices
Security Considerations
- Trusted Network: Only use Local Network Sync on trusted networks (like your home WiFi)
- Encryption: All data is encrypted during transmission
- No External Servers: Your data never leaves your local network
- Device Access: Only devices you explicitly approve can sync with your vault
